CNN Takes State of Union Address across Numerous Platforms

CNN Pressroom - Taking advantage of the “Best Political Team in Television” and numerous broadcasting platforms, CNN will provide the most comprehensive coverage and analysis of President George W. Bush’s sixth State of the Union address available anywhere. A special edition of The Situation Room anchored by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer and Paula Zahn kicks off network coverage on Tuesday, Jan. 23, beginning at 7 p.m.

With the expertise of the “Best Political Team in Television,” CNN correspondents Dana Bash, Candy Crowley, Ed Henry, John King, Andrea Koppel, John Roberts and CNN senior political analyst Bill Schneider will provide insight and reports throughout the network’s prime-time coverage. Contributors Paul Begala, J.C. Watts and others will also provide analysis throughout the evening. The network’s special coverage will also include the Democratic Party’s response by Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia.

Following the Democratic response at approximately 10:30 p.m., CNN’s Anderson Cooper takes over anchoring duties, broadcasting live from the nation’s capital. For this special edition of Anderson Cooper 360°, he will be joined by congressional members and analysts.
CNN’s Larry King hosts a special edition of Larry King Live beginning at midnight with top political leaders and analysts.

CNN International will broadcast Bush’s speech and simulcast much of CNN/U.S. coverage. Several international correspondents, including Christiane Amanpour, Arwa Damon, Jill Dougherty, Michael Holmes, Aneesh Raman, Nic Robertson and Michael Ware, are positioned around the globe for interviews and reactions to the speeches.

CNN Radio will offer live, anchored coverage of both the president’s address and the Democratic response, complete with special reports, live shots, custom reports, sound bites from the speeches, reaction from political experts and analysis from CNN’s political team.

Online, CNN.com provides full coverage of Bush’s address and the Democratic response with on-the-scene reports from CNN correspondents, analysis, fact-checking of key points in the address and response, user reactions to the speeches, transcripts and on-demand video.

In addition, CNN Pipeline will offer a free day of complete live coverage of the State of the Union address and the Democratic response, as well as related reports, through real-time, streaming coverage on up to four simultaneous feeds. CNN Pipeline’s special coverage includes a full day of Washington, D.C.-based reports and on-demand video of the best and most notable moments from previous State of the Union addresses.

For affiliates, CNN Newsource will provide live reports of the State of the Union and the Democratic response starting at 6 a.m. Correspondent Sumi Das will provide coverage until noon, while correspondent Kyung Lah will provide coverage from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. the next day.
