The Situation Room Gains Extra Hour

CNN Press Release: The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer Joins CNN’s Saturday Lineup

Viewers will get an additional dose of The Situation Room with Wolf
Blitzer each week, starting Saturday, Jan. 24 when the weekend edition
premiers. Every Saturday at 6 p.m. (ET), The Situation Room will include
news-making interviews and stories compiled from the weekday editions of
the program, as well as fresh perspectives on recent events.

The addition comes on the heels of a record-breaking year for CNN and The
Situation Room. In 2008, more viewers in the 25-54 demographic turned to
CNN during the 5 p.m. hour than to any other cable news channel.
Additionally, The Situation Room, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.,was No. 1 among
18-34 and 18-49 viewers in 2008.

The Situation Room airs weekdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Eric Sherling is
the program’s executive producer.

I have always wondered why CNN did not
do this before. CNN has tons of stuff
that do not make CNN during the week.
Why not run them on weekends? Do like
Current TV. Have a ton of stuff that you
can run on weekends at 6.7 as well as
some times at 8 & 9 as well. It is quite
simple have the reporters, anchors,
photographers introduce the stories along
with graphics with different topics for about
3 secs before the stories just like CNN.com.
Graphics similar to what they do with Solutions
and ON The Move. All you have to do is store
everything into some type of server. At the
end of the stories just have the reporters
name and beat show up on a graphic. Finally,
someone realizes something needs to be done
about weekend programs.
