Richard Roth Celebrates 30 Years At CNN
CNN's senior U.N. correspondent, Richard Roth, celebrated 30 years since being hired by the network - two months before it launched in 1980 - on Thursday.During his career at CNN, Roth has reported on a variety of major stories, including:
- September 11 terror attacks
- The Gulf War
- The opening of the Berlin Wall and the overthrow of the communist governments in Czechoslovakia and Romania
- Beijing student uprising in Tiananmen Square
- 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, N.Y
Roth also served as CNN's New York assistant bureau chief (1981), the Chicago bureau chief (1982) and the Rome bureau chief from 1982-1986.
In 1994, he was the launch anchor of CNN International's, 'Diplomatic License', a weekly program covering the United Nations. Roth remained as host until the program's cancellation in 2006.
Roth is now the only on-air reporter who was with CNN from the very beginning.
